Shot fired, man arrested at Australia’s busiest airport

A man has been arrested at the nation’s busiest airport after a police firearm was discharged, but the airport says it is operating normally.

A gun has been fired at Australia’s busiest airport as police arrested a man in one of its terminals.

Australian Federal Police said the police gun was fired before the man was apprehended on Wednesday morning at Sydney Airport.

There were no injuries and no ongoing threat to the public, the AFP said.

Footage shared on social media by radio station 2GB showed a shouting man being held to the ground by several people.

A crime scene has been set up as an investigation continues.

Charges have not yet been laid.

The airport is operating normally, Sydney Airport said later on Wednesday.

Sydney is Australia’s busiest airport, handling more than 40 million passengers a year, according to data from the federal transport department.
