Hugh Jackman has revealed a behind-the-scenes look at his upcoming movie The Death of Robin Hood, and the Australian star’s latest look may surprise fans.

The Death of Robin Hood stars Jackman as the titular outlaw alongside Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer in a “darker reimagining” of the classic tale.

Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) and distributed by A24, the story reportedly focuses on Jackman’s character, who struggles to come to terms with his past after living as a criminal for so many years.

In a recent Instagram post, Jackman shares multiple scenic images of his time on set in Northern Ireland, as well as a sped-up video documenting his transformation for the character, in the process revealing some serious facial hair.

The beginning of the clip shows him with a nearly chin-length long grey moustache that a hairstylist shaves off with a razor.

“There is a depth, a camaraderie and a spirit to the entire cast and crew of The Death of Robin Hood,” Jackman posts.

“Thank you for this wonderful experience. It is an honour and a privilege. Thank you Ireland!!! Your beauty knows no bounds.”

The video follows a selfie posted earlier this month by Saul Lodges – an accommodation in Northern Ireland that Jackman vacationed at while filming – showing Jackman with an impressive handlebar moustache.

According to The Death of Robin Hood‘s official logline, the legendary outlaw is depicted as “a battleworn loner” who is grappling with his criminal past and finds himself in the care of a mysterious woman after being gravely injured”.

While little more is known about the movie, Sarnoski last year teased that Jackman’s performance would “go beyond what people are expecting”.

“We’re going get to see him do some pretty different, amazing stuff,” he was quoted as saying.

“I think people think of Robin is sort of like, he’s going to steal from the rich, give to the poor. We have an idea for what that character is,” Sarnoski added.

“But I think what he’s going to do with this character is going to go beyond what people are expecting, and I’m really excited to see to see him dive into it.”
