Shots were fired as a “significant” amount of cash was stolen from an armoured truck this morning in Hervey Bay, police say.

A man is in custody after a âsignificantâ amount of cash was stolen from an Armaguard van this morning, according to police.
Police said they were called to Eli Waters Shopping Centre on Ibis Boulevard following reports a man armed with a gun threatened an armoured truckâs driver about 6.30am.
They said a âphysical altercationâ unfolded between the pair and the security officer fired a shot, before the man fled the scene in an orange Ford Ranger.

No-one was injured in the incident but the man left with a âsignificant quantity of cashâ, according to police.
Less than an hour later, police said the Ford was stopped on Craignish Road, in Craignish, and the man was taken into custody.
Armaguard vans are heavily fortified and usually driven by armed guards to transport large amounts of cash, and robberies of the vehicles were rare.
In 2018 ,an Armaguard van was targeted by two gun-wielding men who fled in an awaiting getaway car in Sydneyâs southwest.
Crime scenes have been since declared on Ibis Boulevard and on Craignish Road.
Investigations are continuing.
