A man with burns to his face and limbs in being questioned after another man’s body was found following a suspicious fire on the northern Gold Coast.
The 38-year-old is in a stable condition in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after being picked up by an ambulance at Sheldon, in Brisbane’s south, about 11.40pm on Wednesday.
Detectives are questioning him about a suspicious fire at a home on Leichhardt St, Coomera, where an unidentified man’s body was found about half an hour earlier.
“Police are awaiting results of an autopsy to determine cause of death and confirm the man’s identity,” officers said in a statement on Thursday.
“A 38-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries while being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
Emergency services arrived at the Coomera home to find it alight at 11.04pm on Wednesday after responding to reports of fumes at the address.
Queensland Ambulance Service assessed the man found in the home for critical injuries, but he was already dead.
