Poem: Awake in Dream

Awake in Dream

When the heat

of a summer night

is the embrace of life

without boundaries

and the slightest breeze

carries thought

away from the logic

of the senses,

I imagine

a stretch of road

riding hills

as prehistoric waves

rolling towards

a union of heaven

and earth,

sweeping past

suburban homes

where subject

to the clockwork

of routine,

desires are bound up together

in sleep,

leaving streetlights

to mark the edge

of civilization

while shining the way

to break the grip

of time

and bring stars

closer to reach.
